Spring Cleaning Compliments Part 1 – Rebounding

I ́ll be the first to admit, I ́m a complete novice when it comes to technology. I literally just graduated from using a vintage Nokia flip phone to a hand-­me­-down iPhone. So reflecting upon this past week and realizing that a handful of bright and beautiful changes I experienced in five short days was due to an App I purchased last Sunday night seems like a mini miracle.

At this time last week, we were already two weeks into spring, so I decided to set a goal. As a self­-proclaimed health and wellness aficionado, I vowed to complete a cleanse from start to finish since I had never done so before. Well, I take that back. In 2010 I signed up for the famous 30 Day Detox at Karyn’s Raw and Inner Beauty Center in Chicago, however, the time commitment for attending weekly meetings along with the cost of extra supplies and supplements was rather daunting. Needless to say, this is why I selected a budget friendly cleanse that was accessible anytime day or night on my ipad. Another perk was there were no fancy supplements needed, simply whole fruits, veggies, a blender and a juicer. Voila!

I began each day last week with a ginger shot followed by lemon water and an herbal tea of dehydrated pineapple, papaya and whole stevia leaves. Preparing the juices each night turned into a meditation time during which I reflected upon my cleansing experiencing that day. With so many “over the counter” pre­set cleanses now available on the market at natural grocery stores and even cleanses that can be drop­shipped to your front door, nothing beats the process of personally selecting the finest ingredients for your juice factory creations (if time permits!). Throughout the week I created a total of 10 new juice recipes, and I even altered my fitness regime as per the advice of Jason, the Juicemaster, whose books on juicing have now sold over 3 million copies worldwide. Which brings me to my tip for today.

Rebounding Jump To It

The thought of jumping on a mini trampoline takes me back to my childhood days of tumbling class ­straddle jumps, pike jumps and backflips! After researching one of my favorite childhood extracurriculars, I reckon I´ll be rebouncing more regularly ­ cleanse or no cleanse. Why? It takes only two minutes of rebounding to flush the entire lymphatic system! An added benefit to the body is that during this brief time span the white blood cells of the immune system triple in number and remain elevated for an hour. Rebounding on a mini trampoline is perhaps the most efficient and forceful means of flushing the lymph while stimulating the immune system and defending against cancer and other ailments.

During rebound exercise the forces of the upward and downward bounces – acceleration and deceleration – are vertically aligned on the same plane with gravity. It was proven by Albert Einstein in 1911 that the aligned forces of acceleration, deceleration and gravity result in an increased gravitational load. What this means for the body is that during rebound exercise cells adjust to the increased load by becoming stronger.

Rebounding strengthens virtually every cell of the body at the same time and is equivalent to resistance training for the cells. Furthermore, digestion will improve, muscles will gain more tone and cardiovascular endurance will soar. It ́s oftentimes challenging to stray from routine, right? But if your daily yoga practice is keeping your life flowing in the right direction why not consider ̈cross­training ̈ as they say in the fitness world? A peaceful yoga practice paired with a high­-octane jump session will take your energy and health to higher realms.

With classes in just about every major city, you should be able to find one near your home. If not, purchasing a rebounder for in­-home use is another option to pair with a DVD or online video.

Never in a million years did I imagine participating in my first rebounding class in Quito, since, yoga classes are even hard to come by. But sure enough, it happened last Thursday on Day 4 of my cleanse. I always saw a set of mini trampolines tucked away in the corner of the studio at my gym but never saw a class in action. As I walked past the studio en route to the treadmill for another trot on the ̈hamster wheel ̈set to my favorite Madonna mix, I caught glimpse of Anthony, the cycling instructor. He summoned me into the class since the week before, I asked him if he ever taught with the trampolines. Wow, the Law of Attraction put into action. Needless to say, I now have a newfound appreciation for the Spanish word saltar, ­to jump!

Adding a new exercise into the week lent itself to a feeling just as sweet as sipping the new juice blends. I am grateful for my newfound consciousness towards every other aspect that rolls into my well­being and am inspired to continue cleansing for the rest of the month. 5 days of cleansing during the week, ̈free days ̈ on Saturdays and Sundays and back to it Monday to Friday. 5­2­5. Easy! While I will still use the same Juicemaster model to guide my week, I ́ve already created my personalized prescription of juices to take me through the next five days rather than subscribe to a pre­fix menu that may not be ideal for my body chemistry and cleansing intentions.

But that being said, the Juicemaster’s 5 Day Cleanse was exactly what I needed to further jump start my Spring Clean. My skin is noticeably brighter, my energy soaring through the roof and new goals set for this week, month and the rest of 2014. The seeds have been planted.
